Russia predicts 25% rise in domestic poultry production

Russian poultry production may increase 25% by 2020 compared with the level of 2012, predicts the president of the Russian Poultry Union, Vladimir Fisinin.

“This year we will produce 3.75, or 3.8 million tons. Our goal is 4.5 million tons by 2020. It is absolutely real, and this figure is in addition to the 500,000 tons of imports,” Fisinin said at the ‘Russia Agroholdings’ conference.

At the conference it was also pointed out that egg production in Russia may rise to 45 billion pieces this year, compared with 42 billion in 2012. According to experts, because of the implementation of the state program of agricultural development in the period 2008-2012 the production of poultry meat in Russia grew by 86%, or 1.66 million tons, while egg production grew by 9.9%, or 3.8 billion pieces over this period.

The largest producer of broiler meat in 2012, Prioskolye, produced 453,400 tons of meat accounting for 15% of total output of the Russian poultry industry. In second place Cherkizovo produced 299,500 tons accounting for 10%.
