Russia to restore MHP poultry supply

Rosselkhoznadzor, Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, will from May 29, renew the certification of production for the Public Joint Stock Company (PJSC) “Mironovskaya Poultry Farm”, which is a part of the agricultural holding MHP, according to the Service’s press release.

However, initially the deliveries will only be permitted to the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.

According to Rosselkhoznadzor, delivery may be made through the checkpoints Perekop, Armenian, as well as through Chongarsky Strait. It is not entirely clear whether the MHP chicken will be able to re-enter the market of the Customs Union, or the certification will be limited only with the territory of Crimean peninsula.

MHP is the largest producer and exporter of poultry in Ukraine and over the past year its supply of poultry meat abroad has doubled to 123,000 tonnes, with Russia accounted for about one third of all shipments – 40,000 tonnes.

Ukrainian experts believe that in February of this year the Russian market was closed to Ukrainian producers mainly for political reasons, because of the deterioration of relations between the two countries. In addition to Russia, Ukraine also lost markets in Kazakhstan and Belarus, as well as some other CIS countries – particularly Uzbekistan, as Russia would not allow transit of Ukraine poultry through its territory.
