Kazakhstan forecasts large increase in poultry production

Egg production in Kazakhstan will increase by 12.5% year-on-year to 3.6 billion units in 2015, while poultry production will jump by 30.8% year-on-year to 180,500 thousand tonnes, says the forecast of the Poultry Farmers Union of Kazakhstan (PFUK).

“According to preliminary data obtained from poultry farms, egg production in 2014 will amount to 3.2 billion eggs, while the production of poultry meat – 138,000 tonnes,” said the report of the PFUK, published on Monday, January 12.

The increase of production will allow the country to improve its level of self-sufficiency in egg and poultry. The report says that the level of self-sufficiency in egg production today is standing at 95%, while the level of self-sufficiency on chicken is still low.

“The need of the domestic market in poultry meat is around 250,000-300,000 tonnes. Self-sufficiency in poultry meat so far amount to 50%, and poultry is the second most popular type of meat in the country after beef,” the report adds.

Ruslan Sharipov, CEP of PFUK, believes that within the coming 3-4 years domestic poultry farms will be able to fully cover the needs of the domestic market in poultry production, as the volume of production will double compared to the level of 2014.
