Tyson Foods, the world’s second-largest poultrymeat producer, has joined the Round Table on Responsible Soy Association (RTRS).

The group said that the poultry giant was one of 7 new organisations to sign up to the association in the final quarter of 2019, and means that Tyson will only acquire RTRS-certified material in areas defined as at high risk.

We will acquire RTRS certified material for the soybean meal used to feed chickens in our supply chain…” – Maggie Jo Hansen, Senior Commodity Analyst, International and Sustainability at Tyson Foods.

It joins Spanish pig and poultry giant Vall Companies, Avena Nordic Grain Oy, Finland’s leading trader in grains and oilseeds and Restaurant Brands International (RBI).

RTRS is a global organisation that promotes the responsible production, processing and trading of soy on a global level.

Maggie Jo Hansen, Senior Commodity Analyst, International and Sustainability at Tyson Foods said: “We will acquire RTRS certified material for the soybean meal used to feed chickens in our supply chain, which generally comes from areas identified as ‘high risk’.

“In addition, we hope to identify other opportunities to work with RTRS in order to guarantee sustainable soy practices globally.”
