Video 8: What to expect when using ionophore programmes

Ionophores are unique in that they allow some cycling of the coccidia while preventing clinical coccidiosis. Here’s 3 things to know when using ionophore programmes:

1. Ionophores do not kill 100% of the Eimeria population so the immunity response can be established.
2. Ionophores work in concert with the immune system. Level of lesions seen will depend on immunity of the bird and control of farm burden.
3. Expect to see some lesions, but impact greatly reduced. Allows birds to maintain good gut health and performance.
