2008: Poultry meat production on the rise in Germany

As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), 3.7 million tonnes of meat were commercially produced in Germany in the first half of 2008, which was 4.0% more than in the same period of the previous year.

Poultry meat production on the increase
With a total of 590,800 tonnes, the production of poultry meat was 8.1% larger than in the first half of 2007.

The production of beef (excluding veal) was 3.1% higher than in the same period of the previous year, reaching 563,600 tonnes.

Also, 2.5 million tonnes of pork (+3.4%), 19,600 tonnes of veal (-1.0%), 10,500 tonnes of sheep meat and 1,300 tonnes of goat and horse meat were produced.
