Ban of poultry imports from India

16-05-2007 | |

If reports of almost 5,000 poultry birds being infected with and dying from bird flu in West Bengal are true, Bhutan will ban the import of chicken meat and eggs from India.

Director of the livestock department, Tenzin Dhendup, said “There will be a total ban immediately, if it is confirmed.” He said that import are currently continuing, and that without any confirmation on the outbreak, no action will be taken.
The department has already sent a veterinary doctor and a Bhutan Agriculture Food and Regulatory Authority official to Matigara in Darjeeling district where the farm is located.
