Bulgaria has discovered a suspected outbreak of Newcastle Disease in a village north of the country’s capital Sofia, according to the National Veterinary Service.

Reports stated that local vets said that 86 domestic fowls on two farms had been infected with the disease. It was confirmed that 33 of the birds have died from the disease, while 53 have been slaughtered and burned to prevent the virus from spreading.
Test samples from dead poultry have been delivered to a Sofia national lab researching Newcastle Disease for further analysis. Poultry exports have been halted and inspection and disinfection of affected areas is underway.
