Palestine and Israel share bird flu knowledge

28-11-2006 | |

A delegation of veterinarians from the Palestinian Authority is visiting Israel this week as guests of the Israel Veterinary Services, aimed at extending the Palestinian veterinarians’ knowledge and experience in handling and challenging the bird flu.

The Palestinian members of the delegation will stay in Israel one week and will visit laboratories at the Veterinary Institute as well as in field laboratories, and participate in seminars focusing on techniques of diagnosing bird flu, if and when the flu will erupt again in chicken farms in the Palestinian Authority.
Their visit is a result of preliminary negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, becoming an “urgent issue” in view of the fact that Egypt reported recently of cases of bird flu “and the fear that the disease will penetrate to Israel and the Palestinian Authority,” according to an announcement of the Israel Ministry of Agriculture.
