Russia’s largest turkey producer, Eurodon, has announced the signing of the agreement of intent for the construction of a new complex of turkey farms with the total production capacity of 40,000-60,000 tonnes of turkey meat per year and the future potential construction of a new duck farm with the total production capacity of 20,000 tonnes of duck meat per year.

The realisation of the projects is in the planning and both of them will be implemented in the Voronezh region in the central European part of Russia.

At a recent meeting with the Governor of Voronezh Region Alexei Gordeev, the general director of Eurodon Vadim Vaneev specified plans of the development in the Voronezh region. In particular, the cost of the complex on the cultivation and processing of turkey will amount to 17 billion rubles (US$ 560 mln).

“Our projects are typical so they can be replicated in other regions. We already have a farm for 35,000 tonnes of turkey meat, and the other farm for 60,000 tonnes is under construction in the Rostov region. In Voronezh region a similar project will be implemented, but without the breeding herd,” said a representative of Eurodon. It will have a capacity of 60,000 tonnes of meat. The project will involve the construction of meat processing and animal feed plants, a transport enterprise, incubators, poultry houses, etc. According to Vadim Vannev at the new complex all phases of poultry production activities will be carried out, from feed production and poultry breeding to meat processing and the sale of finished products.

Land for construction of the complex was picked in the Khokholsky district of the region two and a half years ago, during a meeting of investors and Voronezh Governor.

In parallel with the turkey project Vadim Vaneev also revealed plans for the construction of a new complex for the production of Peking duck meat. This will have an annual capacity of 20,000 tonnes of duck meat per year in the first phase and 40,000 tonnes of duck meat in the second stage. The volume of investment in the first phase is 5 billion rubles (US$ 170 mln). The average live weight of a duck will be 3.5 kg, the average slaughter weight, 2.2 kg. The project aims to replace the imported frozen and chilled duck meat in the market, as well as to revive the culture of duck consumption in Russia, to create a new industry and lead it.
