US chicken competition uses social media to find winner

A US website sponsored by the National Chicken Council, eatchicken.com, has announced the winners of its recent video competition, which was launched for consumers to explain why they loved chicken.

The website ran a campaign called Chicken for the Win! and was designed to get consumers thinking and talking about chicken.

This was achieved through a consumer generated social media contest, where people were asked to create videos about why they love chicken. The campaign received 34 video entries, which garnered more than 16,000 votes and more than three million impressions on social media networks.

On Facebook, the campaign resulted in doubling the number of Facebook fans on the Chicken fan page. On Twitter, the campaign increased the number of followers by more than 200, with more than 60 retweets.

The winner, a fun song about chicken, can be seen on YouTube or the Chicken for the win website.
