Six organic farms have joined forces to launch the Purely Organic brand, supplying organic eggs to convenience store chain Nisa.

Purely Organic is a collection of six family run small-scale farms, supplying Noble Foods.

The brand is endorsed by British Lion, Freedom Foods and Organic Farmers and Growers and is the first brand within the UK to display the Climate Partner logo.

This means that pulp packaging is carbon neutral and the production of boxes will offset the emissions generated by production and transport.

Retailing at £2.10 for 6 eggs, the farmers hope to tap into growing consumer demand for organic products with exceptional provenance.

Hens from the farms forage among woodland and a herbal lay range offers naturally enriched nutrients for the birds.

All feed is sourced from a single organic mill to ensure traceability.

While small, the organic sector recorded the second fastest growing egg type last year and is currently valued at £62m. Sales have surged by 13.4% in value terms in the past 12 months.

David Tromans, of Towcester Farm, one of the 6 organic farmers, said the venture was good for farmers, consumers and hens.
