2 Sisters Poultry have been awarded the largest grant out of 11 awarded to companies by the Scottish Government in its latest Food Processing, Marketing and Cooperation funding allocations.
It has been given £1.4m, and with 2 Sisters investing £3.5m itself, the funding will enable the business to double the capacity in the portions department and create more than 250 new jobs. The move aligns with the food group’s strategic aim of developing more efficient, shorter supply chains which cuts food waste and logistical and distribution costs.
Keith Packer, managing director 2 Sisters UK Poultry, said: “We are committed to providing fresh, quality produce to our customers and creating a shorter supply chain enables to do just that. We have always said we will invest when it is the right thing to do for the business, but the timing and conditions have to be right. This is a great example of that.
“I am delighted that we have secured the support from the Scottish Government as this represents security and growth for our business and the local community in Perthshire,” he added.
Angus-based Arbuckle Poultry Ltd have also received £40,094 to help construct an access road and fund egg packaging equipment.
Announcing the latest round of funding, totalling £3.59m, Rural Affairs Secretary Fergus Ewing, said: “We are doing everything we can to support Scotland’s successful food and drink industry, which continues to go from strength to strength. Our long-term ambition is to double the industry’s value to £30bn in the next 12 years.
“Each of the companies receiving an award already plays an important role in their local economies, but are demonstrating great ambition to grow and improve their businesses. We’re giving them a helping hand to realise that ambition, creating jobs and driving forward Scottish industry – while ultimately providing consumers with a higher quality end product.”
