Nominations open for family farm environmental excellence competition
The US Poultry & Egg Association will be accepting nominations for
the sixth annual Family Farm Environmental Excellence Award, which
recognises exemplary environmental stewardship by family farmers engaged in
poultry and egg production in the US.
Seven families received the Environmental Excellence Award in 2005. According
to John Starkey, USPOULTRY's vice president of environmental programmes, the
growers and producers recognised by this award are model stewards with respect
to the environment, as well as ambassadors to the general public in representing
our industry.
Any family-owned poultry grower or egg producer who supplies product to a
USPOULTRY member or an independent producer who is a USPOULTRY member is
eligible for nomination. Nominations are due 29 September 2006.
The award will recognise superior family farmers in six regions of the US.
One award may be presented for each of the regions: Northeast, Mid-Atlantic,
Southeast, South Central, North Central, and West. The programme includes an
application process devoted to identifying the most qualified applicant. Each
integrator or egg processor may nominate one grower in each state supporting the
operations in the application format provided.
For more information on the competition see the USPOULTRY website or email John Starkey.
