Indonesian boy tested positive for bird flu
The Indonesian Health Ministry
has confirmed that a 14-year-old boy has tested positive for bird flu in
Indonesia, bringing the total number of cases to 75, of which 57
died.
The official said the boy from
Tangerang, West Java, who has had contact with fowls, was hospitalised in
Jakarta after suffering from bird-flu-like symptoms on 1 January.
Experts have warned the
international community of the risks of the disease should Indonesia fail to
prevent the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus (bird flu) from spreading.
This is Indonesia's first case of
the virus in almost two months.
