CPF chicken plant inspected
Thailand's leading chicken
producer and exporter, Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc, is confident its production
process will meet halal standards required by the United Arab Emirates.
UAE authorities recently visited
CPF's chicken plant in Minburi.
Four Thai chicken processors were
picked randomly by the Agriculture Ministry to determine whether their
production processes meet the UAE's halal requirements. CPF is one of them.
"They expressed satisfaction with
our system," said Suphachai Aungsupakorn, senior vice-president of Food
Processing and Poultry Business of CPF.
Before approving the purchase of
Thai chicken, the UAE will have its technical team conduct a comprehensive
inspection of the Thai production system.
According to Aungsupakorn, CPF
used to export approximately 3,000 tonnes/year of halal chicken meat to the UAE,
but the shipments have been suspended since the UAE set a new rule requiring the
presence of a halal supervisor at each plant.
CPF executives said expanding
into the UAE market would help the company meet its chicken export target of
100,000 tonnes this year.
