Australian poultry farmers struggling against costs
Even though chicken has overtaken beef as the most popular meat in
Australia, farmers in the country are struggling to stay in business.
This is the view of president of the Victorian Farmers Association, Michael
Shaw, who was responding to the Australian Consumers Competition Commission
report, which concluded that supermarkets were acting correctly in regard to
prices paid to farmers.
Retailers in Australia are absorbing much of the increased production
costs; however, farmers in Australia still claim that they are not doing enough
to help producers.
