Promoting cultural and gender equality in rural Africa through family poultry

Throughout the African continent the keeping of poultry by village communities has been practised for many generations. Developing schemes which promote and improve home production of poultry must not underestimate the role of women. However, getting new information to the front line of production requires more gender-disaggregated data, and often-delicate social handling to ensure that women are better included.
