Turkey invests in poultry manure for electricity
A €8.6 million biogas facility is to be established in Bandirma, one of the leading poultry centres in the Turkish province of Balikesir. It will produce energy from the manure of the 2.5 million chickens in the vicinity.
Recep Yılmaz, a board member at the investor company, said they would be co-operating with a Germany company, without disclosing a name. “Companies allied to the Bandırma Egg Producers Association own around 2.5 million chickens. The association will provide us with manure,” he said.
The daily poultry manure production in the region is around 170 tonnes. The facility will also use some 45 tonnes of livestock manure, 14 tonnes of corn silage and 82 tonnes of water, Yılmaz said. The daily production on 20,640 m2 of biogas will generate 17 million KwH of electricity annually, he added.
