Large Brazilian investment to cater for Chinese demand

The Brazilian brand AveNutri has announced an investment of € 62.5 million in a new poultry processing plant at Vista Gaúcha city, in Rio Grande do Sul state.

When completed, the factory will process 280k bird per day, primarily destined for the Chinese market.

The new processing plant will initially start with an output of 60,000, followed by a second stage of another 120,000 and growing further to the maximum of 280k. PJB Frigorífico, owner of the AveNutri brand, informed this investment also includes a feed factory and a hatchery. The entire infrastructure is expected to be concluded by the end of 2022.

All of Brazil’s main slaughterhouses have signed statements requested by Chinese authorities to assure their exports are “coronavirus free”. China created this requirement recently for several countries all over the world.

According to PJB Frigorífico vice-president, Leandro Rodrigues dos Santos, the company will also expand with an additional 270 farms, within an integrated system. In order words, private poultry producers will supply AveNutri’s new factory. Most of the production will be destined for foreign markets, such as China. The company already states that a big contract is under negotiation with Chinese authorities and supermarket chains.
