Cargill and its Honeysuckle White turkey brand have donated 1,000 premium turkeys to Ronald McDonald House Charities Chapters in the US for the Thanksgiving holiday season.
The turkeys will be used to provide traditional Thanksgiving dinners to families of seriously ill children staying in Ronald McDonald House programs throughout the United States.
“Thanksgiving is a holiday that reminds all of us about the importance of family,” said Marty Coyne, president and CEO, RMHC. “And, having your family close by is never more important than when your child is critically ill. Cargill’s generous donation of a turkey to Ronald McDonald Houses in the US means our families can enjoy the trappings of a Thanksgiving meal even though they are far away from home.”
Over the span of many years, Cargill’s business relationship with McDonald’s has evolved into a collaborative effort in many ways, including the support for RMHC, McDonald’s Charity of Choice.
According to Mary Thompson, president of Cargill Value Added Meats Food Service, the two organisations share many core values and each has a rich heritage that includes supporting charities such as RMHC. “It is heartwarming to provide support to RMHC families and we are proud to be part of this effort,” concluded Thompson.
“The holiday season is a special time of the year for family gatherings and we feel it is important to help alleviate the stress and strain for families with an ill child so they may focus their energy on enjoying time together,” stated Steve Willardsen, president of Wichita-based Cargill Value Added Meats Retail, which is providing the turkeys. “Joining forces with Ronald McDonald Houses across the nation, we hope to create a warm and hospitable environment for families facing challenges. We feel honored and privileged to support RMHC by providing a traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner to help these families enjoy comfort and stability this holiday season.”
