Hurricane Gustav affects processing plant
Sanderson Farms has said that its processing plant in
Louisiana, USA was not in operation on Tuesday this week due to loss of
electrical power which was caused by Hurricane Gustav.
Returning to normal operations
"The plant's return to
normal operations will be dictated by the restoration of electrical services to
the area and the return of normal traffic on interstates following the return of
evacuees to south Louisiana," said Joe F. Sanderson Jr., chairman and CEO of
Sanderson Farms.
According to the company, none of its Louisiana or
Mississippi properties were materially damaged by the storm, which struck the
southwestern coast of Louisiana on Monday.
The company confirmed that other than the loss of
electrical power, there were no facilities that had any significant
storm-related damage.
Sanderson farms produces, processes, markets and distributes chilled and
frozen chicken products.
Generators are used until power is resorted.
