Aviagen enters joint venture in Zambia with Ross Central Africa Limited

Aviagen, along with its regional distributor, Ross Breeders Zambia, which is a part of the Country Bird Holding Group, invests in Africa with the creation of Ross Central Africa Limited based in Zambia, Sub-Saharan Africa. This expansion allows Aviagen to improve security of supply, and to enhance its service and support to customers on this continent. Ross Breeders Zambia is already well established in the region having developed the Ross brand and sales for over 25 years. To further develop this supply base, both companies will invest to further increase the production capacity and supply the Parent Stock demand for the Ross 308 breed in the region.

Food Gate signs agreement with EmTech Hatchery Systems in Saudi Arabia

Food Gate Poultry and EmTech Hatchery Systems have reached an agreement for a major new hatchery project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Agency to represent EmTech in the Gulf Cooperation Council group of countries. This will be the very first hatchery to be constructed within the Riyadh area and will incorporate the latest EmTech, PrimoTech MAX 94 systems. Food Gate has also agreed to represent EmTech in Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC group of countries to promote EmTech’s range of hatchery and ventilation products.

Foodmate’s redesigns MAX 2.0 breast deboner for improved performance

The enclosed Foodmate MAX 2.0 Breast Deboner, which is owned by Duravant, has been redesigned for greater performance, safety and hygiene benefits while retaining its flexibility in the final cuts of meat produced. The machine processes 6,000 breasts per hour and produces butterfly fillets, half fillets, and tenders in/out. It features an integrated automatic skinner, wishbone remover and keel bone harvester. The clean-in-place feature improves hygiene and reduces sanitation time.

Vencomatic introduces egg flow data tool

According to one customer, Vencomatic Group’s Meggsius Control & Count data tool is all about assisting producers to know more about where chickens lay eggs and about the behaviour of their birds. The company says the insight that is provided makes problems easier to handle or prevent (and from a distance). Meggsius Control & Count is controlled via a central control where it is possible to configure various schedules. Automatic egg collection can be set to the required capacity, and a real-time production data and process overview is available. Meggsius Count offers live monitoring, and accurate egg counting.

DSM collaborates with CPF (Thailand)

Royal DSM has signed an MoU with CPF (Thailand) aimed to measure and improve the environmental footprint of animal protein production through the use of DSM’s intelligent sustainability service, Sustell, which combines an advanced, powerful sustainability calculation tool that utilises real farm data practical solutions to drive sustainability. Furthermore, DSM announces a new chapter for its Animal Nutrition and Health business underpinned by 3 business lines: Essential Products (vitamins, premixes and carotenoids), Performance Solutions + Biomin (expertise in mycotoxins and competencies in feed enzymes and gut health), and Precision Services (data analysis and diagnostic tools).

Betafin secures OMRI status for organic production

Developed for use in poultry, swine and ruminant feed, Danisco Animal Nutrition’s natural betaine, Betafin BT, has gained Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) listing for use in certified organic production. The product, which is extracted from sugar beet molasses and fermented molasses, is already authorised for use in organic feed production in Europe, so the endorsement from the OMRI will now provide the same authorisation for customers in the US.

DSM-Novozymes Alliance launches new generation phytase

Royal DSM and Novozymes launch HiPhorius, which is a complete phytase solution, the addition of which contributes to a significant decrease of phosphorus emissions from poultry, swine and fish farming, optimising value for the farmer while reducing the environmental footprint of animal production.

CP Foods is committed to sustainable corn sourcing and phasing out coal

Under a “no mountain, no burning, we buy” motto, CPF  (CP Foods) commits to buy 100% traceable maize from sustainable sources that are not being harmed in forest areas or burnt for subsequent plantation activities. Furthermore, the company will end coal use in Thailand this year and transition towards greener and more sustainable energy sources from biomass, biogas and solar energy.

The shift from coal to renewable energy sources will help the company achieve energy optimization and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 70,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually. At present, all 12 of the company’s livestock feed mills have stopped using coal for producing steam. Meanwhile, 2 aqua-feed mills and a duck-fowl feather processing plant are currently phasing out the coal fuel consumption by the fourth quarter of this year.

Antimicrobial event hosted by the Schippers group

The Schippers Group and Healthy Livestock hosted an online conference about antimicrobial resistance, featuring leading scientists and practitioners in the field of antimicrobial use in farm animals. More than 300 attendees from 60 countries attended to hear about strategies to reduce antimicrobials.

Enorm Biofactory set to build largest insect factory in Scandinavia

Insect start-up, Enorm Biofactory, has closed a funding round of €50 million. With new partners and permits in place, the company will scale up the insect factory to an annual production of about 11,000 tonnes of insect meal. Enorm Biofactory will soon start beging building the factory in Hedensted, Denmark, and full production is anticipated in the second half of 2023 when 100 tons of larval biomass per day will be produced.

Devenish opens new production facility in Mexico

Devenish, which first entered the Mexican market in 2014, has announced the addition of its latest manufacturing facility in Hermosillo, Mexico. The new location will host the company’s Mexico corporate headquarters and a 2-line premix production system.

‘Transforming Animal Farming’ is the theme of EuroTier 2022, which will take place from 15-18 November 2022 at the Hanover Exhibition Grounds. In addition to the trade fair, a digital service on the DLG Connect platform will be available.

Cobb names Joyce J. Lee as president

Cobb-Vantress, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tyson Foods, has appointed Joyce J. Lee, as its new president. Lee joins Cobb after serving as executive VP and president of US Pet Health and Commercial Operations portfolio for Elanco.

“I entered the poultry industry exactly 15 years ago and am excited about returning to an industry full of passionate people with a common mission,” said Lee, who joined Elanco through its acquisition of Bayer Animal Health in 2020. At Bayer Animal Health, she was the president of the North America segment. She also spent more than 16 years at Zoetis, formerly known as Pfizer Animal Health, in various roles, including executive VP and area president of Canada and Latin America
